We hope your 4th of July was amazing and that you were able to spend some time with your family and friends. As the fireworks light up the sky and we hear patriotic songs, we are reminded of what a privilege it is to live in a place where we have the freedom to be individuals who have a voice. Thank you to all the men and women who sacrificed to give us this freedom. Attached is a song I wrote a few years back about one young man’s sacrifice.
Red, White and Blue – demo
Tell us about your 4th and what it means to you.
Pondering this thought is interesting to me because there was a time in my life, not so long ago, when I had to make a conscientious decision to figure out what I liked. I know this may sound silly, but I had spent most of my life learning what I should like based on other people’s desires. When Amber was five I learned to enjoy watching cheerleading because her greatest ambition in life was to wear a skirt and jump up and down saying, Yea, Yea , go Eagles. She never had any idea who won the football game but she sure loved the outfit and doing cartwheels (I guess some things never change). I liked cheerleading because Amber liked it. When I was five I was wearing a cowboy outfit not a cheerleading skirt, so cheerleading was not on my list of “things I liked.” The point I’m making here is sometimes along the way we forget what we like and when our mini van doesn’t need to keep our family’s world turning, we’re left at a stop sign. So how do we find OUR direction and figure out how to honor our creator and ourselves by learning to do what we like.
Let’s figure this our together. What is one thing you really like to do? And of course, for the sake of this post, it needs to be something you wouldn’t mind the kids or your mama knowing about.
